Teeth Whitening is the Icing on the Cake of Orthodontic Treatment
When it comes to patients undergoing orthodontic treatment, the day those braces come off or they complete Invisalign treatment is a happy one.
An increasing number of patients are eager to transform their new grin into a megawatt smile by having their teeth whitened once their orthodontic treatment is complete, and we are happy to help.
“We look at teeth whitening as a nice finishing touch to orthodontic treatment,” says Scottsbluff dentist Dr. Gary Cheloha. “Patients are eager to smile after their braces come off, and brighter, whiter teeth only make that smile more attractive.”
While routine dental cleanings continue to be a part of the oral care regime during orthodontic treatment, having a cleaning done after their appliances are removed once and for all is at the top of many patients’ to-do lists. We are happy to oblige, because it gives us an opportunity to clean the entire surface area of the teeth. Once teeth are cleaned, a teeth whitening treatment adds a beautiful finishing touch to those clean, perfectly aligned teeth.
Teeth whitening is a popular request among orthodontic patients, and many orthodontists also are responding to the demand, according to one of our colleagues, Dr. Nima Hajibaik, an orthodontist at Newpark Orthodontics in Alpharetta, Ga. Dr. Nima offers teeth whitening treatments following appliance removal, and sometimes he even includes teeth whitening as part of the entire orthodontic treatment package.
We use the KöR Whitening Deep Bleaching System in our office because it is a high-powered system that is less irritating to the soft tissue than other brands. It has been shown to be effective against tobacco, coffee and tea stains, as well as tetracycline-stained teeth. It’s safe for patients as young as age 14, and it has been shown to lighten teeth by as much as 16 shades.
The process begins with us taking impressions of your teeth to create a mold from which customized whitening trays can be fabricated for you. The process involves one office visit, followed by wearing your trays at night while you sleep for two weeks. The system is completed with a final visit to our office. This system will keep your teeth looking white, bright and healthy for life with periodic at-home treatments.
“Teeth whitening is a very cost-effective, noninvasive cosmetic treatment that makes a significant difference in a patient’s appearance,” Dr. Gary says. “A beautiful smile goes a long way toward boosting self-confidence, and teeth whitening is a great way to improve your smile.”
